I worked closely with director Á’a:líya Warbus to craft a 14-min doc, “qṇts nísṃá tu̓íy̓a (Our Own Path)” for the Heiltsuk Káxḷá socitety, aimed at the Haíɫzaqv community.
We sought to:
- Inform Haíɫzaqv people that they would be reclaiming governance over their child welfare system
- Acknowledge past harms and trauma, as well as historical strength
- Show the strength and capability within the Haíɫzaqv people to care for their children, especially children in care (e.g., showcasing current and ongoing work by the Heiltsuk Káxḷá socitety)
- Inspire & encourage Haíɫzaqv people to share their vision and voice in this process
